Question / Help Not able to record smooth footage in 1080p in OBS Studio

Hello All,

Specs:

Graphics Card: AMD Radeon R9 380
CPU: i5-4690K
8 GB of ram

I have been trying to record league of legends at 30fps 1080p and no matter how much I play with the settings I'm not able to get a constant good quality video. I'm occasionally forced to use Mirillis Action which works fine, but doesn't have all the capabilities and freedom I have with OBS.

I believe that's my log. Let me know if there's any more information you might need, I know I'm probably doing this incorrectly, just let me know.

Make sure vsync or some other form of frame limiter is enabled in your game, and use one of the recording quality presets under Settings > Output (simple mode).

I enabled vsync on my game. And I've tried the recording quality presets, but I'm still getting lag on the video file.

Your log is incomplete, there is no recording in it. We need full one with this part:
13:00:49.723: ==== Recording Start ===============================================

13:00:56.404: ==== Recording Stop ================================================

The settings in the high quality recording guide apply to OBS Studio as well. You configure them in Settings > Output (advanced mode).

The post I linked describes advanced settings output mode of recording. If you select simple mode x264 low cpu will be available

Post log again after like 5 minutes of recording.

I used all the advanced settings you showed with that link. On regular obs, I'm still unsure where to select simple mode. I wasn't setting low cpu on obs studio either.

Here's the log though, thanks for all the help.

Also, accidentally recorded this one with a .flv file instead of a .mp4.

OBS Classic does not have simple/advanced output modes and recording quality presets. You posted in the OBS Studio forum and provided a log from OBS Studio, so the assumption is that you're running OBS Studio.

Mroczny gave me settings that pluggin to the Encoding and Advanced pages on OBS. And honestly, I'm just trying to get anything to work.

I did however find the low cpu settings. Its just initially not on the 'Simple' page until you change the recording quality settings. Then you can find it under encoding.

I'll try those settings after I finish my swim.

Thanks

You can configure those same settings in OBS Studio, but the recording quality presets do the same thing. Settings > Output (simple mode) - Set the quality to something other than "Same as stream" and then set the encoder to either "x264 Low CPU usage preset" or one of the hardware encoding options.

I've enabled my Custom Buffer size and set it to 0, however, I don't see a way to disable CBR. Under rate control I only see abr, vbr, and crf.

What kind of FPS do you get in the game when OBS isn't running at all versus when it's recording?
