Question / Help No video/audio from capture card (OBS Studio + Avermedia Extremecap U3 cv710 ) - Solved

When using OBS Studio, I can't seem to get any audio/video from my capture card (Avermedia Extremecap U3). This doesn't seem to be an issue with the original OBS, and everything seems to be displaying there just fine. After adding the device initially, there is no 'red box' showing size or position. After manually fitting it to screen, it seems to be completely transparent (It's on the top layer, but the layers below it are visible). This is distinctly different from how it seems to react when there is no signal (i.e, the box is transparent, not red). I've also tried different resolutions to make sure it's not an issue of conflicting resolutions (tried setting base size, output resolution, device resolution, and display resolution on the gaming rig all to 1080x30, 720x30, etc). Ah, and I've checked all connections, rebooted, and tried restarting OBS Studio as admin.

I've seen devices act like this when there are conflicting resolutions, or when OBS can't lock the device down. If I had to guess, it looks like the latter is happening, as I can still open the device in RECentral or in standard OBS while OBS Studio is open. Been looking through the OBS Studio forums and haven't found anything like this yet, so I figured I'd go ahead and post.

Have you tried adding it using Stream Engine instead?
I haven't tried that. The stream engine isn't listed under the Extremecap U3 downloads on Avermedia's site, and the description for it mentions the LGP, but nothing about the U3. I'll go ahead and give it a shot.

Edit: 'No device detected' when trying to start Stream Engine, so I guess not. =[

Oh, you're right. I could have sworn it could use Stream Engine but apparently not. >_> So it still works in OBS1 and in ReCentral? Does deleting the source and re-adding it make any difference?

Yup, it still works in RECentral and OBS1 (In fact, if I open OBS1 while OBS Studio is open, the capture card works in OBS1 but the other devices are empty/missing... which is why I think maybe it's not actually able to access/lock down the device). I could to display capture with it like this if I had a spare 1920-capable monitor on my streaming rig.

Same results after deleting and re-adding the source (with just OBS Studio open, of course).

Update: It seems to be working after disabling buffer in the device properties, and setting audio output mode to 'Output to desktop audio (WaveOut)'. Weird.

I'm actually also having this issue with OBS Studio and my Avermedia ExtremeCap 3, changing the buffer didn't help and I don't seem to have an audio output mode option in OBS studio for the video capture device. Any additional ideas would be greatly appreciated. (Capture device works fine in OBS Classic and RECentral)

Ok I apologize, I figured out what was going on. With my stream setup (dual PC) I have DVI-D from my video card to my display so that I can obtain 144hz refresh, and then a separate output from my graphics card via HDMI to the capture device. Then I clone the displays so that everything that is displayed on my main monitor is also shown on the capture card.

The problem was, to get audio output to both my normal headset and the HDMI cable, I normally enable stereo mix in recording, then set it to "listen" with the avermedia capture card selected. I forgot to change that listen output when switching from my live gamer HD to this ExtremeCap U3 so the capture card would not display at in OBS Studio unless the audio was also working. In OBS Classic and RECentral, it still displays the video even when the audio is not detected. Once I resolved the issue with my audio, it seems to be working for now. Sorry to waste anyone's time reading this, but maybe my post will stop someone else from feeling silly :P
