No Sound in Program View

Very much a NewB... was watching some of the videos on sound etc. Set up a test pattern screen and added a sound clip. Easy enough. Issue is, I cannot hear the clip playing in the Program View. I know it is, because the meter is dancing, and if I record the session, I can hear the sound on playback. I'd like to be able to hear it while it is playing. No sound coming from the desktop or headset. Probably something simple. Suggestions where I should look?

You need to set your monitoring device to something you will hear, such as speakers / headphones.

Thanks for the response. I had the external speakers listed before, but then there was no sound on the playback of the recorded session. I was told to use the virtual cable so that the sound would be picked up for the external viewer. Maybe I need to review the audio instructions again.
