No more virtual camera

Hi everyone,

I'm using openSUSE Tumbleweed and just upgraded to kernel 5.14.0-1-default (just upgraded this morning) which made my virtual camera in OBS Studio disappear !
Currently, I'm using OBS Studio 27.0.1 (64 bit) and the following packages are installed : v4l2loopback-kmp-default and obsv4l2sink.

Is there anything I could try ? It's been hours scouting forums now, and still nothing worked :'( I was using the virtual cam for two weeks now with BBB without any problems.

Thanks !

Check whether v4l2loopback is installed for the current kernel with modinfo v4l2loopback

If not, you need to check with your distribution on how to install it. Usually is installed via v4l2loopback-dkms so it is installed via dkms system that should survive kernel upgrades, but you may also need the linux headers for the current installed kernel too. Maybe read the output when you install things if they tell you if they succeeded or failed.

Thanks for your reply.

Running sudo modinfo v4l2loopback gives me modinfo: ERROR: Module v4l2loopback not found.

Problem with Tumbleweed is that I can't seem to find v4l2loopback-dkms, and I don't recall having installed it before, when I had the Start Virtual Camera button :'(

Anyway, thanks for your help. Don't hesitate to reply if you have other suggestions. Meanwhile, I'll try to see what I can find.

You definitely have to check with SuSE how to install that module or compile and install it yourself. Many ways to do that. OBS just requires this module to have that feature.

Hi Tuna,

Didn't reply sooner because issue was not fixed. However, today's update (system update) just brought my "Start virtual camera" button back !

Thanks for your help.
