My audio was fine, then it started to 'echo and then went off altogether I have tried all sorts but cannot get it back. There is no indication of any activity of sound in the audio mixer, ie no line movement on the bars!

How is/was the sound coming in? Do you still have those sources? What are they set to? Are they in fact still working, but the thing they're connected to stopped?

OBS is general-purpose enough that "it stopped working" doesn't really mean much. There are countless ways to do the same thing, all of which have a different set of potential problems and different solutions, so which way are *you* doing it? (or trying to, at least)

I have my firestick as my source. All was fine with the audio, now there is no audio at all. No activity showing in the audio mixer! Tried changing settings for the firestick and settings in general, but still no audio. In addition, I set the firestick up with the same capture card on my desktop PC and it works fine, but no longer works on the laptop, using exactly the same settings.

Does Audacity see it? Same PC as OBS that doesn't?

If so, and OBS still doesn't, screenshot the settings for that source in OBS and post here, along with a log file.
If not, troubleshoot Audacity first, and then see if OBS "just works".
