Question / Help No Audio Recording

I am able to record the screen and webcam but the audio does not record.

I added my laptops microphone as the audio input source. I can see the green volume bars bouncing back and forth when I talk but after recording, there is no sound. The microphone works for other screen recording software but not OBS.

I took it to Best Buy Geek Squad and then could not help me. See attached pic. Please help.

Also please be sure to attempt to play the video with VLC Media Player, as Windows Media Player can sometimes fail to see the audio.

Windows Media Player doesn't have the codec needed to handle OBS audio. As dssdassw said, try VLC player. I was in your shoes a couple weeks ago.

Avidemux is useful if all you're after us cutting and/or re-encoding to a different format. For more advanced video editing, Sony Vegas has a good reputation.

Or the more affordable Sony Movie Suite. Same as Vegas minus being able to use resolutions >1080p (as well as some features you only need if you use professional camera and audio equipment).

Then save as flv or mkv and remux after if your editing software doesn't support those containers.

VLC editing software? You mean, a normal video editor?

I was using Windows Movie Maker (simple, effective, and free) but it does not support VLC files. Well, there's no sound.

Or the more affordable Sony Movie Suite. Same as Vegas minus being able to use resolutions >1080p (as well as some features you only need if you use professional camera and audio equipment).

Is this software free? I did not find a free version.

Avidemux worked but it is pretty bad. I can't make precision cuts or see the audio bars like in Windows Movie Maker. Sony Vegas only had a free trial version.

I might make a purchase, but I wanted to see if there were any free options as good as Windows Movie Maker.

Thanks for all the advice.

There is no such thing as a "VLC file". VLC is the name of a program that plays back video files. Maybe you're thinking of FLV files?

Ok, I guess I'm getting a little confused. So I used OBS to screen record and it gave me an MP4 file. The MP4 file had no audio when I tried to play it on Windows Media Player or Windows Movie Maker. The MP4 file does have audio when I play it on the VLC player. So I need an editing software that can handle the MP4 file from OBS.

Windows Movie Maker can handle MP4s, but apparently not produced by OBS.

So try saving as flv in obs and remuxing to mp4 afterwards
Or put together an ubuntu virtual machine and use openshot
