PS4 audio is very difficult.

In order to capture audio via HDMI, you must have your audio setting on the PS4 set to output to HDMI. This will disable any other audio output method from the PS4 (i.e. optical, controller, headset, etc), so in order to be able to hear the PS4 yourself, you need to have a solution in place to hear the audio from the HDMI signal.

There are several ways to do this:
- your capture card has a passthrough, and you're sending the HDMI signal out to your TV, which is playing the audio
- using an HDMI audio stripper to get optical or analog output from the HDMI signal, and send it to your speakers/headphones
- setting OBS to monitor your capture audio, which will play the audio over your computer's output (this will be delayed)

The elgato (specifically HD60S) is a popular choice because you can get the chat cable, which allows you to split out the audio being sent to your controller (which you can plug your headphones into), and use that as the audio input for the capture.
