I have a very simple setup. Trying to capture game play audio on one audio track and mic audio on another track. Mike is one audio source and desktop is the other. In advanced audio properties I select the mike as track one and game audio on track two. On play back I get either the mike audio or desk top audio but not both. The only way I get both is to select track one for both the mic and desk top audio. Any idea what I am doing wrong. Spent hours trying to figure this out. My thanks in advance.

That's the way audio tracks work in OBS. It's similar to different language tracks in a video file. You have to select which track you want played back. Most players won't allow playing back multiple tracks at the same time. If you plan to edit the recording in a video editing application, import the file into the application and check if you get all the tracks on the timeline (DaVinci Resolve works like this). If you don't get all the tracks you will need to use an application like Audacity to separate the tracks into individual files and then import those into your editing app.

For streaming you need single stereo track: #1 - mix of all sources.
For recording you need two stereo tracks: #1 - skip it, #2 - only desktop source, #3 - only mic.

This saves PC resources (the track #2 and #3 can be mixed together in the audio/video editor later).
Content makers usually mixing sounds manually and adding mic track to the video during editing. This allows to cut off undesirable sounds that can be picked by the microphone during recording session.

-----------
The media player can play either track #1 or #2 or #3.
If you not planning to adjust audio levels of your mic in audio editor after recording, then your choice is obvious, mix of all sources in single track (it's default OBS setting, by the way): #1 - mix of all sources.
Thus, in the media player you'll be able to hear all sounds in the track #1.

Thank you everyone. The light finally went on. Only one track can play on the video player. When I imported into Davinci Resolve as track one and two it worked as it should, dah! I learned the hard way, but learned. Thank you all again!
