Question / Help New user

Hey all,

I am a new OBS user and I can't wrap my head around a few things:

Recording
  • OBS doesn't record audio, not from the game, nor from my mic

Streaming
  • The live stream seems to be quite laggy (at least when I watched it to check the quality). The VoD of the same streaming looks fine
  • In my last stream, I was told the mic audio was not picked up, while the in game sounds and in game voice were. The VoD though had the mic audio coming through just fine.

If it helps, some info about my set up>

Laptop: Asus ROG g751jy
Headsets: Hyperx CloudII

All in all I just want to make sure that, if the stream is a pain to watch, it just because of me and not technical issues :)

Thanks in advance!

Noemi

Most likely cause: you're using windows media player to check your recordings. WMP has a 15+ year history of BAD media format support.
Try playing back with http://www.videolan.org/vlc/index.html instead.

Additionally, saving directly to MP4 is NOT recommended. In the event of the file not finalizing properly, the entire file is rendered useless.

Harold, thanks! VLC definitely works!

Would you know why my voice wasn't picked up on the live stream, but it was in the VoD (didn't witness this directly, I was told so)?

Or what setting I should fiddle with to have a smoother stream, rather than a laggy one?

Cheers :)

There's no stream in your log can you post a log that contains a stream please. You can search for this line in the log to make sure you are uploading the right data:

==== Streaming Stop ================================================

looks like you are streaming over wireless
18:42:09.516: [rtmp stream: 'adv_stream'] Interface: Intel(R) Dual Band Wireless-AC 7260 (802.11, 390 mbps)
This can be bad idea if other wifi networks close to you work on the same wifi channel. in this case you are guaranteed to loose packets of data. you really should use ethernet cable to connect to your modem/router
also the moment you lagged frames in log was the moment when you recorded, streamed and played game at the same time - see the exact same number of lagged frames - 343 in stream and recording. it may be too much fun at the same time for system to handle

I was streaming on wireless indeed. My Ethernet always had trouble connecting and I thought WiFi would be enough (mistake, I know now). I fixed the Ethernet issue now and will not record while streaming. Thanks for the help :)
