Question / Help new user needs help

HI I am a new user need some help
I went to use obs studio to record game footage to my hd
I went 1280by720

1. what should my base canvas be set to ?

2 once i am in game and hit the record is there some thing i can set to see it is recording?

Set your base canvas to the same size as your monitor, if you need to downscale that resolution for the recording change it in settings, output, recording.

The only thing that signifies the recording has started is that the file will be created.
