Question / Help New to the software - why do my recordings lag so badly?

I've been testing out the software by recording short clips using the game capture mode (screen capture didn't work for the fullscreen game). While the audio is fine and doesn't lag/freeze, the video quality is frankly awful. It starts off lagging badly on the menu screen; then, when I go into gameplay, almost no video is recorded, it's just frozen images every few seconds. Changing FPS and various other image quality settings didn't change anything. Am I doing something wrong?

My computer is Windows 8.1 and the game I was recording was Oblivion. Microphone capture and audio in general were fine. I've tried closing and restarting the app.

I tried the same and honestly you were right. The video quality is awful. I also tried changing FPS but did not work for me either

OBS is a very resource intensive application. If a hardware is able to run the bare operating system, it doesn't mean it is capable of running a resource intensive application like OBS.

It might even run in parallel to Oblivion on your machine, if you are willing to sacrifice a lot of Oblivion's graphics quality and if you are accepting rather mediocre video quality. But this would neither do your Oblivion experience any good, nor your recording's viewing experience.
