Crash Report: https://pastebin.com/8suiYkap

Hi everyone,

I'm new to OBS. I've done a couple streams so far with no issues whatsoever, and I'm trying to work out some more complicated setups and OBS is crashing on me, seemingly out of nowhere. I'll try to take note of what I'm specifically doing next time around, but for now, this crash report is all I've got.

I should mention that I wasn't streaming when the software crashed; it's crashed a couple of times so far. I'm a bit worried about reliability during a stream if I'm experiencing these issues during the initial setup.

Any ideas? Is it a common error? I'd love any input you all can provide.

Thanks so much!

I'm sorry, I forgot to include the obvious stuff. I'm running it on OSX 10.13.3 on a Late 2013 Mac Pro with a 3.5 GHz 6-Core Intel Xeon E5 processor, 16 GB 1866 MHz DDR3 memory, and an AMD FirePro D500 3 GB graphics card. And, I was using Studio Mode.

One issue I'm facing is that OBS also crashes when switching Profiles from a saved Profile to an Untitled profile.

I don't know if studio mode has been linked to crashes in the past, although it has been linked to a drop in framerate due to the way OBS draws the dual preview window.

For most crashes I generally suggest starting by moving your ~/Library/Application Support/obs-studio folder and restarting the app to see if corrupted profiles, scenes or scene collections are at fault.

It also may help to have a logfile as well as a crashlog.

Helpful to know. I moved the folder and everything seemed fine, it behaved as though it was opening for the first time. But, when I went to adjust settings, and clicked Apply, the program crashed again.

Here's the pastebin link for my latest log file after the crash: https://pastebin.com/nunqv0c6

Your crash log shows its possibly a bug in the OBS UI or something interacting with the UI. If you can find precise steps to replicate your crash that can help identify the issue.

Or sorry i misinterpreted the mac crash log. It looks like both crashes are in the graphics subsystem. This really shouldnt ever happen. Perhaps try updating graphics drivers if thats possible or reinstalling obs.

Deleting ~/Library/Application Support/obs-studio basically IS reinstalling OBS, at least as far as MacOS is concerned.

Updating graphics drivers is also not a usual procedure unless you're running a Hackintosh. MacOS updates include graphics drivers as they are available; generally you only update your own if you're using an aftermarket card.

I am seeing here and elsewhere a lot of graphics system related complaints from users of High Sierra that I am not seeing from Sierra (which is what I am running). I wonder if the problem is something caused by the latest point release to MacOS.

Interesting. Yeah, I obviously couldn't update the graphics drivers, as you said, but I did update to the latest OSX release and it's ever-so-slightly less buggy and prone to crashing. But, now the only real consistent crash I have happens after trying to close OBS, I get a "closed unexpectedly" error nearly every time.

Thanks everyone for your help. I hope to stabilize this situation. I'm not too big of a fan of running a stream with a fear of my application crashing on me. :-/ Otherwise, me and OBS are gonna be good friends.

I'm definitely an OBS novice but we seem to have something related. Unfortunately, I found this thread after my last crash and had already shut down and opened OBS a couple of times... but next time this happens, I'll be sure the capture and share the application log file.

My m/c:
  • Mac mini Server (late 2012)
  • Processor 2.6 Ghz Intel I7
  • Memory 16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
  • OS High Sierra 10.13.6
We use this Mac 1-2 x/week to monitor some stuff and stream to Facebook. Our crash seems to always happen when we start Chrome (in order to access Facebook etc), which is odd. Once the system restarts, it seems to be stable for maybe the rest of the day.

Could our issue be that we aren't shutting down OBS properly? So, for instance, is it best practice to pause the video before exiting the application? I'm wondering if not doing that could be leading to memory issues or something. Or maybe, as someone mentioned, there might just be issues with this release...

Any input would be appreciated. Just like Adam, we love OBS but I'm a bit nervous about the possibility of a crash during live streaming.
