I have recently wanted to start recording my games and have heard about OBS. However, whenever I record, not stream, my in-game is a little laggy and choppy. The same thing is happening with the video being recorded when I go back and watch it. Any type of help would be much appreciated since I really do not know how to fix this.

1. Turn off "Game Bar", "Game DVR" and "Background Recording" (under Game DVR) in Settings. They cause a lot of lag, and if you want to have clips like in the Game Bar the Replay Buffer festure in OBS does the exact same thing.

1.5. You may want to try running OBS as administrator.

2. Use NVENC to encode. it has no performance impact, and is better quality than x264 veryfast.

3. (You may have to enable "Advanced" settings under the "Output" tab.) Use CQP (CRF in x264, if you still want to use that) to control bitrate. Set it between 15-25, where 15 is best and 25 is worst quality. I recommend 18-20. It is much more efficient than a constant bitrate.

4. (TOTALLY UNNECESSARY, MOST OF THE TIME) If you think you need better audio quality (hint: 99% of the time you won't) you can try using CoreAudio codec, tutorial here.

4.5 (Also probably unnecessary but you should do it) You should set your audio rate in the Audio tab of your settings to "48khz" because your devices appear to use some multiple of 8khz, and this may improve audio quality.
