Question / Help New Laptop Struggling With Local Recording

Hey, so I recently upgraded to a new laptop, an MSI GL62 6QF to be specific. The specs of it on paper sound like it could easily run a game such as Clustertruck as well at recording it at, at least 30fps... however, I've been using OBS studio to record it locally (no streaming going on) and yet I'm experiencing some lag. I've played around with settings however despite the game running at a very smooth 60+fps, the game capture is averaging at about 20fps.

The thing I've noticed is at the bottom of OBS, it'll say CPU 8% which I assume is the total CPU usage. Is it perhaps that OBS is holding back how much CPU it is using which is causing my capture to suffer? These are my specs:

Intel Quad-core i7 6700k
Nvidia GTX960M
16GB DDR4 Ram

Honestly, I don't know much about PCs. I'm able to record footage from my capture card perfectly using OBS however it's computer games that are suffering. Any help that could be offered or a link to a similar issue that has been solved would be fantastic. Again, sorry for my lack of knowledge. Thanks anyone who can help.

Don't use the opengl renderer.
And you probably need to set obs to run on the nvidia gpu if you have one.
