So its been a long time since I cared to delve into PCs. I have built my own but that was 15+ years ago and now I haven't used anything but my phone in years outside of work. My son(10 yr old) however wants to stream video and is complaining about the video quality. I suspect its the hardware in the box that needs upgrading but I don't know whats what anymore. I did check internet connection and its fine 100 down 80 up.

Here is what is in the box... is this out of date and if so what are economical choices for replacement that will give him good quality video and audio without breaking the bank.... thanks

  • AMD FX-4300 3.8GHz CPU | AMD 760G Chipset | 8GB DDR3 | 1TB HDD | Genuine Windows 10 Home 64-bit
  • Graphics: NVIDIA Geforce GT730 2GB Video Card | 24X DVD±RW Dual-Layer Drive | Audio: High Definition Audio

Hi :D
Could you maybe ask your son on what streaming platform he wants to broadcast?I'd say it's probably Twitch.tv.
Regarding hardware, the #1 thing you need to look at is the processor, as someone who has a friend with the same processor as the one you noted, it shouldn't be an issue at all.
The internet speed you noted is more than enough for streaming so the only thing left I'd say are the settings in the obs itself.
For an optimal stream, I usually go with 720p 30/60 frames per second (Though I wouldn't go above 30 with a slower pc), 2500 - 3000 bitrate is more than enough for 720p and the downscale filter should be set to lanczos for the maximum sharpness.
I'd say that's pretty much it in my book, you could try 1080p but I'm not sure if the rig would be able to support that much stress, though it depends on the game too.

Oh yea, completely forgot about the rig question. It kind of is out of date, I'd focus on getting a better graphics card first in order not to lose frames in games while streaming, since the processor will be able to handle the stress with that internet speed.
If you want to spend some more for an optimal setup, my advice would be to get a new processor too.

Thank you for the info. And yeah its probably twitch and most likely Minecraft, Clash Royale or Clash of Clans he is trying to stream.

I'll check his settings and tweak to what you recommended but if that doesn't work do you have any recommendations or specs on what I should be looking for on a graphics card and for what I should look for in MB/Processor?

Thanks again

Hahah I feel you absolutely.
Noope, 8 gigs of ram is just enough for anything, so no worries about that.
Everything else doesn't make much difference in regards to streaming.

Thanks again (AND again) Definitely going to try the GPU first if that doesn't work then I will got MB/CPU route.

I'm reading up on what you recommended now and I'd forgotten about having to mount the fans, the paste etc for processors.. At least now I am bald so I can't pull my hair out working on this thing.

No problem :D
Hahahah well the hair won't be an issue at least hahah.
There are plenty of videos on youtube regarding fan mounting and pc building in general, so you might want to check that out :D
If you have more questions don't hesitate to message me, have a great day :D
