Question / Help NEED HELP WITH OBS SETTINGS

Hi guys im new to Obs studio and want to know some good setting to record my videos on.

I used to use Bandicam and that worked fine although a friend recommended that i use OBS as I will get higher FPS whilst recording.

The problem is im trying to record but everytime i do, my video is super laggy and slow. Im not sure what setting to change thats why I need your help.

This is not a problem with my computer because i can record the exact same game, with bandicam, without problems.

Simple settings:

Recording Quality Indistinguishable
Encoder X264 low CPU usage BUT THE BEST OPTION is using your hardware encoder if available: NVENC, QSV or AMF
Format FLV

Ok where do i find these settings, and whats an encoder?

Encoder: here you select how OBS encodes video , using CPU or your GPU.
