Need help with grainy video output (still)

I'm hoping someone that understands OBS can help figure out why my recordings from webcam always come out grainy. OBS is fully updated and graphics drivers are updated.

You can see my new Logitech Brio 4k camera is crystal clear in the viewing window:

But when I record and then output, it comes out grainy (not even 1080p quality. It looks closer to 720p.

Here are my settings:

It also isn't a rig issue as that should be more than capable of handling this:

So what's going on with the quality being output?

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Here's a side by side of the viewing window and the output video quality difference, look at how pixelated the output is on the right:

Your comparison screenshot is almost twice as large as the preview so it isn't a fair comparison. Most webcams generally won't look that great at high resolutions. Also make sure you're playing back in a decent video player like VLC.

that is playing back in VLC....this webcam is a logitech Brio 4k camera. It should be more than enough

What really doesnt make sense to me, is I can pull up a video from my >front facing< camera on my phone in the very same vlc and the video quality will be better than this 4k webcam. I had the same issue with OBS and a 1080p webcam prior.

Your canvas and output resolution is HD portrait so you're downscaling your 4k webcam. Change your canvas and output to UHD portrait and then compare it to your phone videos.
