Need help starting recording. Filters on monitoring mode not affecting audio.

I hear my voice but touching any filter does nothing to my voice. What can I do to fix it? I also don't know how to make the audio sound less odd. Sounds less like an echo and more like you are just in a room. Any ideas? I don't know anything.
