Question / Help NDI plugin - Dual PC stream settings - and a few questions

I have my gaming pc, and streaming pc connected via gigabit LAN/Ethernet. New to this networking stuff (always been a single PC streamer) so have setup my "homegroup" for the first time. {Question #1}Does the NDI 'stream' from gaming PC travel over the ethernet/homegroup?

Did some test streaming last night and was amazed how well it functioned... I was thinking that setting up audio for streaming PC was going to be a nightmare. Was so easy I almost feel I have to pay someone for this awesome plugin. Anyways looked great... but I want to optimize settings. {Question #2} Which are the best OBS settings for gaming in 2k on my main PC and then sending it to the streaming PC whose native Resolution in 1080?

Gaming PC: i7-8700k, 32GB ddr4 3600 ram, M.2, GTX 1080 ftw , 1440p monitor, Overclocked to 4.7ghz
Streaming PC: i7-6700k 16GB ddr4 2400 ram, GTX 960 SSC, SSD, 1080p monitor, Overclocked to 4.4ghz

I have my Canvas resolution on Gaming PC set to 1440p, downscale to 720. cpu preset medium. bitrate 3000. 60 fps. x264 encoder.

Streaming PC canvas is 720 (downscaling? to 720?) 60fps, bitrate 3000, cpu preset slow, x264 encode.

Looks great, cpu load on stream pc hits around 50% on obs, doesn't rise above 55C temperature wise. Zero dropped frames. tested hours long streaming sessions of Miscreated.

My isp max upload is 5Mbps. Any advice or hints on how to make the stream look even better or optimize settings for my particular hardware? Thanks for your time. I am a bit of a noob, but open to suggestions. Thanks.

Hi,

I have a question, why are u setting ur 8700k under load to downscale to 720p?
Or do you mean that the video output option is set to 1280x720 so stream this to your dedicated streaming pc?

Why not 50000 as bitrate, so uncompressed ?

And when he compressing at streaming pc again?
Hope I mean canvas set to 720p and video 720p
And in stream option no downscaling active ?

I am ATM streaming from
I7 8700k
32gb 3200 ddr4
1070 oc
M2
1440p 144hz (around 90 on pubg)
Video:
1440p base (canvas) and output(scaled)
Lanczos 32 60fps
With ndi 50000 to streaming pc
Aruna mic
Alertbox as additional scene
Game capture

Streaming pc is:
Xeon e3 1225v3
16 ddr3 1600
Gtx 750ti
Ssd
Video:
1080p base (canvas) and
output(scaled) 720p
Lanczos 32 60fps

Streaming Option:
3500bit - 3750 - 4000
CBR
Keyframe 2
Medium
60fps
Main
Rescaling disabled
(Cause video is already downscaling?!)

Cpu get's 75-85% loaded

Also
Webcam c920 default resolution (1080p)
With chromakey filter for Greenscreen facecam

I tried lot out, but am confused
If is should downscale video (downscale) to 1080p or 720p directly on gaming pc so that streaming machine gets less load and better/higher compression? It should do nothing with compression but scaling also requires cpu power ...

Gaming pc'
Base / output:
1440
1440
Or
1440
1080
Or
1440
720

And streaming pc
Base/output:
1440 (Incoming from gaming pc 1440)
720
Or
1080 (Incoming from gaming pc 1440)
720

makes this sense, higher resolution receiving higher than base resolution and monitor resolution?!

Or
1080 (Incoming from gaming pc 1080)
720

Would be a pleasure for your recommendations

Also I'm having my old 4790k here w/o dedicated GPU,
Should I give it a try with the 750ti from the Xeon?
Or I could get a 980gtx cheap (higher watt usage but more ram and power) or is this one useless / overpowered ?!

I have this same question here in 2024, did you ever get any answers to this? I didn’t want to make a new post for this exact same scenario. Sorry for the resurrection.
