Naming a file before it gets Remux-ed?

Is there a way for me to name the files I just recorded rather than OBS naming them for me?
Right now I just record my desktop while my trading software is running and I'm making trades. When I stop the recording and go to File > Remux recordings, I see a label like this: 2022-01-25_10-3
4-16.mkv
Once the Remux has finished, I get the same label except for the file name, which now is .mp4.

I've looked in the Settings of OBS and don't see a way for me to label it myself, unless I do it after all of the Remux is done.
I can generate 10-20 files (stock trades) in a morning and they all look similar except for the numbers that were generated, similar to what I posted above, which is a bit confusing for me when I go back and look though the recordings.
I realize I can rename these files once everything is done but I'm hoping there's a way to rename them right when I want to Remux them.
Is this possible to do in OBS, or something similar?

Thanks,
Steve in Central Vermont

Try SETTINGS/ADVANCED/RECORDINGS and that will allow you to change the format of the file name... Maybe that will help you..

In case you didn't notice: it is the date and time of the start of the recording.

Banyarola mentioned where to find the Filename Formatting setting. Hover over the field for a popup that explains each available variable for naming. Please note that you can also have fixed text in it ie. Stock Trading %CCYY-%MM-%DD %hh-%mm-%ss But please keep in mind to have sufficient variables to avoid overwriting the same file over and over again.

Thanks WBE... I don't use that much and the default setting for me are just fine.... I'm sure the original poster will find it useful.

I do realize the first 8 digits are whatever day it is.
I did find the other options when I hover my mouse over the Filename Formatting but I have a question about that. I must have to enter whatever filename I want into that field myself? I can't select one with my mouse as the list disappears when I move my mouse down to it.
And.......if I do change those variables, and if I don't like what I'm seeing, will the default be listed in that list?
This is what is showing now: %CCYY-%MM-%DD %hh-%mm-%ss (I'm guessing this is the default).

Thanks again.

As far as I know %CCYY-%MM-%DD %hh-%mm-%ss is the default value, I've done a few installations the last two years and it always was this (but I'm not completely sure whether regional settings might influence this default).

It is quite common that so called tool tips are shown when hovering the mouse cursor over ie. a text or a question mark icon. Hat tip: take a screenshot! You can mix and match those variables as you like and add other text... so it is inevitable that you'd do some typing.

If you later want to revert to the default setting, copy the pattern from this forum message again and paste it in the Filename Formating field.

I'm good for now. I've rearranged those settings to show the time first (without the seconds) then the Month-Day-Year. Having the time first makes finding which video I want much easier.

Thanks!!

Do be aware that ccyymmdd-hhmmss is generally used for good reason, to make sorting-by-name easier, so videos all taken on the same day will be sorted together, and then by the time. If you sort by time first, it'll group every video taken at the same time together... today, yesterday, three years ago... if it was taken at 11am, it'll all be there together.

In the long term, it WILL be a nightmare for organizing and sorting, if you plan to keep videos for any significant duration.

Talk about 'over-complication' of a simple process....
Sounds like you have a very simple solution / process you can share to resolve the problem mentioned in the original post. Care to share? I’m sure the original poster would find it very helpful. Thank you.

Funny you mentioned this. As I found out today, what you said is exactly what happened! I was a bit confused after I was done recording today, this morning, around the same time as I did last Thursday and Friday and saw some confusing files in the folder!!

I've reverted everything back to the way it was....

Thanks for trying folks!!
