Question / Help My stream runs far worse than it should on a system of my caliber.

Hello everyone, I own a gaming PC with the following specifications:
  • i7 8700K
  • GTX 1080
  • 16GB RAM
  • MSI Z370 Gaming Pro Carbon

Normally, a system of this caliber should be able to stream 720P 60FPS seamlessly; however, upon streaming I face a multitude of issues. My main issue is that my stream stutters horribly. It will stream normally for 1 second, then stutter for 1 second. This is unwatchable for any average user.

I am streaming using a constant 4000 bitrate, and the Fast preset. It is important to note that I can stream normally with the SuperFast preset, but this results in blocks which make the stream appear blurry. I only play Overwatch. Because I have a 144hz monitor, I normally play in 300 FPS. However, when I stream, I cap the FPS at 155. The stuttering persists no matter the FPS cap. I am playing on all low settings as well, and a GTX 1080 should be able to MURDER Overwatch at max settings, let alone all low settings. I get 120 down, 10 up for internet speeds. This whole setup seems more than capable of streaming at 720p 60FPS with minimal blurriness, but that is not the case.

I can continue streaming at super fast, but I do not like the blocks that appear, especially with the thought that other people with my computer setup can sometimes stream as high as the slow setting.

My log file is below:

It is important to note that I have attempted to use the Log Analyzer in the pinned forum post, but I could not locate the analyzer website. I have looked through various other threads as well, to no conclusion. All forum posts that reference an issue similar to mine all end in a mysterious and inconclusive manner, and hopefully this thread does not end in a similar way.

Here is a VOD of me streaming for a few hours with 4000 Bitrate and SuperFast USAGE preset: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/362587233
As you can see in the VOD, it looks "okay". However, Overwatch is a fast-paced game and I would prefer less compression/blocks. Compression is extremely present and noticeable in timestamps such as 1:46:05)

Thank you for help in advance.

According to the log your GPU is fine, but you are severely overloading the encoder:

13:20:41.602: Video stopped, number of skipped frames due to encoding lag: 2441/4430 (55.1%)

Also the log specifies the fast preset, not the superfast preset. The suggested preset for most cases is veryfast.

There will not be a way to completely avoid compression artifacts during fast motion at 60fps with a bitrate of 4000. Twitch's guidelines for 720p60 are 3500 to 5000. If you can do it there's no reason not to go to 5000 or 6000.

You've also still got all the Windows Game DVR and Game Bar features on, which can't help, and possibly Game Mode as well, which you should turn off. The log reports your Windows build as:

13:19:09.234: Windows Version: 10.0 Build 17134 (revision: 523; 64-bit)

Which means that Game Mode is on by default and cannot be switched off, so you'll either need to run the October 2018 update or edit the registry to turn it off.

You want to be on build 17763 which provides a toggle to turn Game Mode off in PC Settings. However it should be noted that this setting is more closely associated with rendering lag, which you do not have, than with encoding lag, which you do have.

Thank you for the feedback. Going to go ahead and skip the hassle of disabling Game DVR if it isn’t even directly connected to my issue with rendering. I know that the log specifies Super Fast. As I stated, I already used the Super Fast preset and it works fine with my 4000 bitrate, but it looks bad. So I tried using fast, but this whole issue happens.

So to fix it do I just turn my bitrate up
