Hey guys,
I have been getting into DJ live streaming and had a few goes at it using Macbooks and iPhones (with OBS Camera App) abd Logitech C920 webcam as external cameras.
I'm aware there are performance issues on iMac and Pro (Mojave) with OBS - i.e. you don't get the performance you should from relatively good specification Macs compared with the equivalent Windows based laptop and you can't use NVENC encoder (Nvidia graphics cards) even if there was one in the Mac you were using.
I'm trying to suss some different aspects out.
I've streamed this stream https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FwFVMRypN38 from
1) Macbook Pro 2015 2.5ghz Quad Core I7
16GB RAM with AMD Radeon R9 M370X graphics and Intel Iris Pro Graphics 5200
2) iMac 2011 2.5ghz i5
8GB RAM with AMD 6750m Graphics
The slower iMac (left on High Sierra) performed better than the Macbook despite a drop in hardware punch and is ultimately what the above video was recorded on.
The iMac kept throwing off OBS Cameras (the iPhone would disconnect with the camera screen on, or the iPhone would appear locked sometimes as if the app quit and went to home screen).
I'm ultimately trying to give the best visual experience but I have a feeling the number of USBs are upsetting the iMac.

On the USB side there was:
1 x Logitech C920 webcam
2 x iPhone OBS cameras
1 x Mouse
1 x HooToo USB to Ethernet adaptor with 3 extra USB ports (for reasons I can't understand, it wouldn't take a direct ethernet at the time)
1 x Scarlett 2i2 Sound Card (feeding sound into OBS from the DJ equipment)
1 x Facetime Webcam ON
WIFI = OFF
BLUETOOTH = ON

Three questions:
1) GRAPHICS
I'm contemplating installing Windows on the iMac (and adding an Nvidia graphics card) if I can do this. Would this solve the Mac issue?
2) USBs
Is my only answer to reduce the number of USBs to stop it throwing off the iPhones? Or is there something else (even on the iPhone) i can check?
3) iMac vs Windows
I love my iMac but I could get by with my Macbook Pro and a basic Windows laptop to OBS from. That said, I would still need a number of USB ports not just 2 often found on a laptop.
Are there any 'ready for streaming' Laptops that are around £400 as I could sell the iMac for this? Even a 2+ year old Laptop that is used but for all intents and purposes, allows Nvenc and has say 4 USB slots?
Help appreciated.
