Multiple names for a video source

I want to use a video source in full view one scene and put a mask around it another scene. It was recommended to attach the same device but give it a second name in the second scene. Unfortunately, i cannot get the second scene (using a different name for the device) to show anything! I get a blank screen. An additional scene where I use the first name and simply repostion works fine. No filters, nothing added, just no image.

I'm wondering is this might be a PC v. Mac issue?

You must not add a capture device twice. One capture device can be accessed only once at the same time. One gets an image, additional stay black.
To work this out, remove all duplicate sources. Re-add them with the "add existing" option. You did it correctly, if all instances of the same capture device have the same name in the list of sources.
If you need to add filters to one instance of your webcam source, but not to others, add a group to your scene and put the webcam source into the group. Apply the filters to the group and not directly to the webcam source. If you already attached filters directly, remove them and re-add them to the group.

If you need to crop one instance but not to the other, don't use the crop filter but instead press and hold down the ALT key and drag the borders of the source to crop. This isn't reflected on the other instances.

Rather convoluted, but it did work as advertised! Thank you, koala.
It took a while to discover that it wasn't just "Add" the device, but what finally worked was dropping the device onto the Group. For some reason this was the only method of putting the device into the Group.
