Moving to another window or tab removes the tab I'm recording

Hi there,

So I'm very new to OBS, & we read that this was a bug that was fixed, but even after installing 27.2.2 it is still doing it.

I click on another program or window or profile in my browser, and when I go back to OBS, the profile & tab I want to record is gone. Sometimes it comes back, other times I don't know how to get it back.

Please help.

Thanks

OBS (and every other capture app) is able to capture the currently displayed browser tab only. Any browser tab not visible cannot be captured. It's not being rendered by the browser, so it isn't there while not the active tab.

Ok, but when I go back to the tab to start, it won't show up. How do I get it back? I just see that cascading thingy (don't know what it's called) that I don't know how to deal with.

So basically once you get the tab set you have to start right away, is that what you are saying? LOL

Thanks

It seems you're using a display capture source to capture what you're seeing on your monitor. If you switch to OBS, OBS gets to the foreground and is the thing you see on the monitor, so this is what OBS will capture: OBS in the foreground on your monitor. If you minimize OBS, your browser or whatever else is again on the monitor, and display capture will capture that.

You have 3 alternatives to minimizing OBS:
  • you can order OBS to not capture itself. Settings > Seneral > General > Hide OBS windows from screen capture
  • instead of display capture, use window capture to just capture your browser or whatever app you intend to capture. Just that app window will be captured, nothing else. If it is partly obscured, even obscured parts will be captured.
  • move OBS to a second monitor

I lost my response because I restarted. sigh

I'll try to remember.

Thanks for this.

So I'm on Windows 7 & version 27.2.2 & I keep getting this error even after someone told me what to change in the settings.

I was just told to load the Nvidia Geforce Experience to update the drivers, but the login window is not showing up. The text or graphics are hidden on that window even with no browsers open so my percentage of memory & CPU is very low for a change.

So I don't know how to update the drivers. Here's my speccy. http://speccy.piriform.com/results/gg6sUTMyj8LxnOpdvmoZK1M

We couldn't find this part which I really wanted -
  • you can order OBS to not capture itself. Settings > Seneral > General > Hide OBS windows from screen capture
I think this version should have it, no?

Despite that, I clicked on start recording & got this error. https://i.imgur.com/1RrNgfQ.png

When I pressed Ok just now, it did something to my speakers which freaked me out, but I got it to stop when I tried recording again & Xed out instead of pressing on Ok.

Thanks again.

It's simply too different and the old versions of OBS required to use it are so different to today's standards, it's not possible to give any support for that any more. May be some Nvidia driver + OBS combination will work the way you like, but since nobody's running that any more nobody can tell.
