Question / Help Most stable capture card for OBS? I keep finding intermittent snags with Avermedia/Magewell

I can't seem to find a capture card that will work consistently without intermittent issues interfacing with OBS, but I really don't want to move to any other capture software if I can help it. So I come to you guys.

I had been using a Magewell XI100DUSB 3.0 capture card which had worked well, but about 2 out of every 5 videos end up capturing with a significant audio delay. That can be fixed easily in post so it wasn't a huge deal, but it became a problem when live streaming because it would cause me to have to occasionally stop and restart the stream if it happened. Again, not a game-breaker, but just something to always worry about. A little bit of Googling led me to find others with the same issue with Magewell in OBS.

Then I switched to Avermedia ExtremeCap U3 since a couple friends recommended the Avermedia platform based on my previous concerns. I stopped having audio delay issues which was great, but now I have an intermittent issue where the audio stutters terribly. That CAN'T be fixed in post so that turned out to be an even bigger problem. Again, a little bit of Googling and I found plenty of Avermedia users recording in OBS with audio stutter issues.

My question is: Those of you recording/streaming regularly in OBS using a capture card who don't experience any of these problems, what capture card are you using? I'm eyeing up the Elgato HD60 Pro but I'm not psyched about spending $200 without getting a hold of someone who's put it through its paces.

Thanks for your time!

if you want to capture 720p/1080p video source, elgato is pretty nice for me but i actually have the problem that everything lower than 720p looks not that good in obs. this is because you can change the bitrate of the elgato in the elgato software but not in obs. but i have no sound issues with elgato or any problem what you described.

So you are using a 2 PC Setup? Or are you only recording Console Games?

Good to know. I'm recording almost entirely 1080p content so that will work out for me.

2 PC setup. I record PC and a few different consoles but I have an HDMI switch outputting to a dedicated recording PC where I have OBS installed, and all my recording takes place there.

Use PCIe capture cards, not USB. Even USB 3.0 can have problems from what I've seen.

I got a Datapath card off Ebay for relatively cheap, main "downside" is that most of them don't do audio too, you have to route the audio separately to the audio-in of a sound card on your capture PC. Also, make sure you have a spare 4x or larger PCIe slot on your motherboard before you get this.

Here's a current auction for one that would work: http://www.ebay.com/itm/112198559131
