Question / Help More frames dropped when recording in 720p than 1080p.

I'm having a strange problem where my recordings are really choppy when recording at a smaller resolution. When I record at 1080p 60fps, for the most part it's fine, I get a few frame drops, but it's not horrible. When recording at 720p 60fps though, I'm dropping way, way more frames resulting in a very stuttery video. I wanted to record at a lower resolution to hopefully get rid of ALL the frame drops that I get on 1080p, but I ended up getting about 100x more.

I don't see anything wrong with my OBS configuration. When playing the game my GPU usage goes to at most 60%. I do record to an external 7200rpm drive, but it doesn't have any issue with 1080p videos.

This depends on whether or not your frame drops are from encoding or rendering.

If from rendering, adding scaling from 1080 down to 720 won't really help much, as OBS will render the frames in 1080 and then scale them before encoding in 720.

If from encoding, it should help.

Using 720 as your canvas resolution would help in either case.
