I've recently starting using OBS Studio after using Streamlabs OBS for years, and I'm encountering an intermittent issue and trying to pinpoint the source.
When I'm streaming and have two monitors connected, both monitors will intermittently restart mid stream. It looks like when you change your display configuration or resolution and they power off for a couple of seconds before turning back on. I haven't been able to find any pattern to the issue, but this is what I've discovered:
Only happens when using two monitors
When the monitors come back on, Steam and Discord windows will become solid black and must be force closed.
Some games (Dead By Daylight, Resident Evil 3 Remake) will stutter during this period. To people watching the stream, the entire stream locks up for the duration of the "restart"
Other games (It Takes Two, Resident Evil 4) will crash completely and must be reopened.
I've changed the HDMI cables on the monitors
Changed the power strip the monitors are connected to
Tried both software and hardware encoding in OBS
Reinstalled OBS
Completely uninstalled and reinstalled GPU drivers
I don't experience the issue when streaming using only one monitor, and I do not experience the issue if OBS is not running.
I don't notice any issues with OBS itself while this is happening, and I've never had to restart or reopen OBS.
