monitor resolution and canvas resolution obs studio

hi all, this my first time streaming and i was just asking, if i put my canvas resolution on 1920/1080p should i put my monitor as the same resolution or does it not matter?

the canvas resolution should be the resolution your monitor is at

and the output resolution should be the resolution you want your stream to be at
