Question / Help Missing Desktop Audio

When I stream and record simultaneously, OBS Studio does not capture the desktop audio. If I stream without recording, OBS Studio captures the desktop audio. I haven't tried recording without streaming, so I don't know what would happen to the desktop audio under those circumstances. Here is the last log.

OBS has separate audio settings for recording and streaming. It is able to record multiple audio tracks, to stream a single audio track, and to assign one or more audio devices to one or more audio tracks.

Check:

Edit > Advanced Audio Properties

To check which audio devices are assigned to which track(s).

Check Settings > Output

To see which audio track(s) you are recording, and which audio track (singular) is set to stream.

I thought I had done a good job of identifying the circumstances under which recording of the desktop audio would fail. Apparently, I was wrong.

Today I was streaming to Twitch.tv. I was not monitoring the stream during gameplay, so didn't notice until after the fact that, once again the desktop audio was missing. I guess it's back to square one.

I haven't had time to check all of the settings, but I was able to determine that the audio track assigned to streaming is track 1. Beyond that, I really haven't had a chance to investigate further.

Will show you which device(s) are assigned to which track(s).

Looking at the "Advanced Audio Properties" dialog, all six boxes under the Tracks column are checked for Desktop Audio.

If desktop audio is on track 1 and track 1 is what is being streamed, then the stream should get desktop audio.

If you have an additional hardware device to check with (say, USB headphones) then you can turn on "monitor and output" for Desktop audio in Advanced Audio Properties, and set your USB headphones as a monitor in Settings > Audio and verify that you hear desktop audio in the stream.
