minimize on close

hello,

i know it was proposed before but ultimately was rejected as unnecessary or stupid. I honestly think it is neither. People nowadays 'close' apps all the time and are used to having apps running in background - both mobile and desktop. OBS is a great software which gives people amazing control and customization options. Why not give us this one ? It would be just an extra check in 'System Tray' settings area.

I'm still in the camp that thinks it's unnecessary. There's already a button that does exactly as you want and has been a standard UI feature for decades on *every* desktop system. Why not use it?! Why mess up something else so you can have two of the same thing instead?

Every change introduces bugs, that then need to be found, understood, and fixed. So it's not just a simple checkbox.

If you've trained yourself to reflexively nuke everything and then expect it back as if you didn't, then I think the solution is re-training, not a different UI. Tell it what you *actually* want it to do, and take personal responsibility for your own mistakes and bad orders that it dutifully followed. Learn to not give it an order that you don't really mean.

That said, it's often a *very good idea* to completely close or nuke anything sensitive before you stream. Because anything that's open, even in the background, can find its way onto the stream and become public. So don't have it available to do that. Live streaming "look at me!!!" and privacy don't really go together.

I do agree with a point that every change is a challenge, but let's not exaggerate either - ultimately the methods are there already ('minimize to tray' and 'exit/terminate'). It would just require to reassign the X button behavior to 'minimize to tray' action and leave the alt+f4 / file menu with 'exit/terminate' behavior.

The mistakes and bad orders - none of these would be true. It would be my choice for OBS to behave this way - no mistakes involved and no retraining necessary. The privacy concern and responsibility argument - 100% agree, but again, it would be my choice. I am not proposing for it to be a default behavior so the responsibility would be directly bound to my preference.

I think that there is a good reason for this way of interacting with windowed apps exists. It is mostly about UX design / making the app to disappear quickly and reducing the risk of 'going offline' (by misclicking in this case). Messenger apps, audio players, clipboard managers etc. are all good examples. OBS is a software that is essential when I am recording a class or an important meeting and i would argue that it is even more important for people who are streaming content.

cheers

how do i supposed to do it on Wayland? i have no buttons, and "close" hotkey, you won't believe, closes.
the only way is just click tray, but i want to use hotkey like with plenty other human apps, and as far as i know there is no such term like "minimize" on wlroots wayland compositors

it is just a checkbox for convenience for those who rely on it, nobody is forcing it to be default
