Hi Everyone - long time OBS user but running into a strange issue that I have not encountered before.

I recently reformatted my PC, and upon getting everything set back up - when I record through OBS it only comes out in mono. I've searched the internet tirelessly and have come up with no solutions. Downmix to Mono is not checked in the advanced audio properties.

Microphone: AKG P220
USB Interface: Focusrite Scarlett Solo

Attached are screen shots of the settings

You might check and see if your microphone only records in mono you can do this by right clicking on the speaker in the bottom right hand corner of the screen select recording devices right click on the device your using and click properties.. Using a good set of headphones go to the listen tab and play back through your headphones.. if its recording in mono you will be able to tell.. Some mics also record either left or right speaker this is a common issue with condenser microphones you might have to use Jack or pipe the audio back through your usb mixer if you have one..

Through listening to the device, it comes out in stereo. This is a new problem that only happened after reformatting -- i've been using the same set up for over a year now and im not sure where I went wrong after the reformat. Also only happens in OBS -- if I use something like Voice Recorder in windows, it comes back in stereo. So confused! Thanks for the reply.

I figured it out, actually have to downmix to mono to get the microphone track to play in the center. Makes sense I guess!

XLR mics generally output in mono, unless you have patterns to choose from. The stereo effect is achieved by using pan and balancing the signal between left and right. The scarlet doesn't have a pan and should balance the signal automatically, if i'm not mistaken. You should use mono not stereo
You stated that you get the desired stereo effect in other applications, this probably means there is somthing off with your obs installation.
Can you try using obs, the mic and interface on another PC and see if it works there?

Edit: all this writing for nothing :D. good that you fixed it.
