Whenever OBS is open, my microphone sounds terribly crackly and distorted to others (e.g. on Skype / TS / Discord) whilst it sounds completely fine on my end. My mic sounds perfect in recordings/streams, and when I check the "listen to this device" box on the device in Windows it sounds crystal clear. The issue vanishes immediately after closing OBS.
My microphone an XLR microphone connected via a Focusrite Scarlett 2i4 Interface into my PC. I use VoiceMeeter to handle my audio (mainly to channel my Discord/TS audio into a separate audio track), but my microphone does not go through it in any way. Both OBS and Skype/Discord/TS simply have the Focusrite USB device selected as the mic input.
Strangely, I can hear the distortion myself if I set my microphone up in Voicemeeter and listen back to it through there - that's the only place I can hear the distortion myself, unless my friends record me talking and send me the footage.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, as this is making collaboration with other content creators impossible for the time being. Many thanks!
