Mic input stuck at –7 dB max peak in OBS when using Scarlett 2i2 4th Gen

Description of the Issue

Hi, I’m having a reproducible issue in OBS where my microphone input will not peak above –7 dB when using my Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 4th Gen as the audio source.

If I create a new Audio Input Capture source (before selecting the Scarlett), the input behaves normally and can reach 0 dB.
But once I switch the device to the Scarlett 2i2, the input becomes capped at –7 dB.

This usually happens after: adding filters / rebooting my computer

Once it starts happening, I can’t get past –7 dB no matter what I change.

What I’ve Observed

  • Windows audio meters can fully clip at 0 dB.
  • Focusrite Control 2 meters also fully clip at 0 dB.
  • But inside OBS, the exact same signal maxes out at –7 dB.
This happens even with:
  • no filters
  • no plugins
  • default settings
  • fresh OBS profiles
  • fresh scene collections
  • different USB ports

Versions Tested

I have tested this across:
  • OBS 31
  • OBS 32
The behavior is identical on both versions.

System Info

  • Windows 11
  • Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 4th Gen
  • Driver version: 4.143.0.261
  • Shure SM7B
  • Triton FetHead
  • OBS Studio

Additional Notes

I also contacted Focusrite support.
They were able to reproduce the same behavior on their side, even on macOS without drivers installed.
The issue seems to appear consistently when OBS is reading the Scarlett 2i2 4th Gen input.

The problem does not appear when I use a different audio device inside OBS such as my webcam.

Has anyone else experienced this behavior with the Scarlett 2i2 4th Gen, or is there a known workaround inside OBS?
I can provide logs, screenshots, recordings, or run any tests needed.
