Mic Chirping Sound Only in OBS

Update: I have narrowed it down to my Motu M2 and the Buffer Sizes Samples. I had it on default 256 when it started to make the chirp sounds. I had it on 256 since setting it up a few months ago as everything sounded fine up until a week ago. Now when I change the Buffer Size down to 64 it does not make the sound. I can even change it back to 256 and it does not make the sound.

Update: It is not Voicemeter or Motu Software. It has to be something with OBS. So no one has ever heard of this chirping issue before?

Did this issue ever come back for you again? I just got a Motu M2 and experiencing the same chirping sound in my voice and it only happens in OBS. Nothing in discord, audacity or other voice recording software. I tried playing with the buffer size in obs and with the motu app and I can't get it to work properly.

Out of curiosity, are either of you using a webcam when this happens? This same thing occurs on my machine with the Motu M2, and also occurs with the Steinburg UR12 when my Logitech C922 Pro is active in OBS.

I can hear the artifacts when I monitor the microphone input via OBS, and as a workaround I can open the Motu driver application and simply toggle "Use lowest latency safety offsets" on and back off again until it stops making the awful screeching/chirping/clipping sound. I believe I'm using the default settings (48000 Hz sample rate, 256 sample buffer size, do not use lowest latency safety offsets), no particular combination tends to work better than others when this happens so I've left them as-is.

This is apparently a very well-known issue that has been documented at least as far back as 2013, but is still a prominent problem on some machines with no shortage of questionable solutions.
