Mic Audio issue

I have a problem with my external Mic audio level. When I first open OBS the level is OK and then over a period of about 30 seconds it winds itself down. Probably about 50dB so then I have to go to the PC mic level and turn everything up to max and also +26 bD in OBS to get any audio on my livestream. Even then the livestream audio is very low. Incredibly frustrating and I've tried heaps of different setting adjustments. Can anyone help please.

What's the external mic? If it's not horribly distorted after cranking the PC mic level, then the mic itself is not giving you very much.

Or maybe Windoze is being stupid again? Trying to "optimize things for you" but failing miserably to understand what you're doing?
If the problem resets when you restart OBS, then this might be more likely. See what "convenience settings" you can find in Windows' Control Panel, and turn them off. (they're not all in the same place - look everywhere) YOU want to control what happens, not some corporate employee in Redmond, WA.

Thanks for reply. Just tried a different Laptop and its fine. Have removed OBS including settings and re-installed and still does it. When I first open OBS and talk close to the mic the OBS mic bar graph goes into the red. Leave it for about 10 minutes and by then if I scream into the mic I can just get a small amount of green to appear on the bar graph. The level has been attenuated by about 50dB. Don't think its a Windows issue as the Windows bar graph under mic settings never changes and the mic level never changes and is set to 100.
I've even been into the HP audio settings panel and nothing I can find there. Tempted to rebuild the Laptop but don't really think that will help so probably a wast of time. Not sure what else to try as I'm guessing is something in the HP Laptop design as a Dell Laptop I have works fine. Not sure what else I can try.

Also just found it is not OBS doing it as when I use the basic Windows voice recorder it does exactly the same thing. Have also re-installed newly downloaded audio drivers and still the same.

Problem Solved. Unticked a box called 'Enable Audio Enhancemnts' in the Advanced section of audio recording settings. Uses Conextant ISST Audio driver software and having a look at a few other devices they don't have this option. Can't beleive it can be a bloody enhancement to slam 50dB of attenuation on the external Mic input. Cost me a shit load of time but at least solved now.

Like I said, Windoze is being stupid again. Trying to "optimize things for you" but failing miserably to understand what you're doing. And the solution was indeed to turn that @#$% off so that YOU control what happens, not some corporate employee in Redmond, WA.
