Menu Shuts Off Too Quick / White Computer & White Battery Icons On LCD Screen / AC Adapter

I recently added an AC Adapter to my Canon M50, now when I press the menu button on the back of the camera, the menu comes on, but shuts off after about 7 seconds and then it goes back to what the camera is viewing.

The menu will be showing, then it'll show a white computer and battery icon on a black background for a split second, then go back to camera view.

This is when OBS is open and the camera is connected to my laptop via USB.

When the camera is connected to my laptop and OSB isn't opened yet, The camera view will show for a split second then, the same icons will appear on the lcd screen, only this time they stay on there.

Due to the low resolution canon uses for webcam style feeds via USB, I don't use it
Are you using EOS Webcam utility?
Have you tested with some other software (preferably Operating System Native) that uses the M50 video feed, and see if behavior is the same as with OBS (I suspect it will be)?

OBS doesn't work with the Canon EOS web utility.
My camera is connected directly to my laptop and won't even work unless OBS is open.
Would an ac addapter have something to do with it?

that is not true. It may not work on your system, but plenty of folks are using Canon's EOS webcam software with OBS
I don't currently due to hardware and firmware limitations around all but the latest Canon camera's USB port
But, I had the Canon software working as designed at one time.

Then you've done something wrong. Sorry, if looking for gentle, emotional support, I'm the wrong person to assist.

That is a question for Canon. Your best bet is probably some Canon support forums.

My standard advice applies in this situation
- Troubleshoot all Audio and Video source issues first at the Operating System level (OBS not started/running). Preferably use native OS tools/apps. Make sure permissions are set correctly.
if you are not familiar with what that means,
- reboot your PC
- wait a few minutes for Operating System to settle down
- Open the Canon software, then connect camera (or whatever the Canon manual says to do)
- and check

In this case, if other software can't see Canon camera as a webcam, then you need to fix the Canon install, associated OS permissions, or your Operating System config. You are causing yourself more grief if you move onto OBS without fixing the basics OS visibility into a source first [advanced OS & OBS users, who would NOT make this sort of post, would know when it would be appropriate to skip this guidance]

What would the AC adapter change - no idea. That would be camera model specific firmware driven, and have nothing to do with OS or OBS.

My impression at this point is that you need to understand the camera when USB connected to a computer, the camera firmware, and the EOS webcam software. Once you have a handle on all of that, getting it to work with OBS should be simple
Good Luck

OBS doesn't always work with the Canon web utility, I found a video that showed me how to fix it. All I had to do is right click the icon in the taskbar and click quit and then it worked. You're right about understanding everything, but I'm finding out what not to do the hard way, haha. My latest issue is, I connected the m50 with an hdmi cable and it shows in obs, but the lcd screen is black. If I click the menu button, it shows in obs, but the lcd screen is still black.

The laptop black screen is due to the Operating System and GPU drivers, typically. There is a FAQ/Help article on this site regarding it

That may be a case of OBS' documented default behavior of locking a source. By forcing closing an app/process (your right-click on icon in TaskBar), you are removing that process from the 'equation'. Ie, if Canon utility had Source open, preventing OBS from accessing the source (as it couldn't get a lock).

OBS doesn't even recognize the camera. When add video capture device, the only two options available are the laptop camera and OBS Virtual Camera.
