Question / Help Magewell XI100DUSB + Mac + OBS

Does anyone have any experience using the Magewell w/ Mac and OBS? The Magewell is a usb 3.0 device. My question is will it read as a video capture device in OBS. I understand the unique issues MAC has with reading devices such as the Elgato. Since this is a 3.0 usb device I'm wondering (and hoping) if this will be an answer.

Thanks.

Thanks homebro,

I said video capture, but I meant game capture device. I'm not understanding the comment about it working as a webcam, but you're essentially saying OBS and Magewell play better together than Elgato.

OBS will recognize Magewell as webcam, so mac version of OBS will display without any problems.
Of course you can feed any HDMI output to Magewell, so you can show your console games or whatever

Mac version of OBS has problem with some capture cards, but magewell USB 3.0 device bypass this issue, because
OBS recognize this as webcam...I hope I explained it well....

Yes I have it and it works as webcam.
I can stream my game in 1080P with mac OBS without any problems

HI,
I need a software to record a video stream from my
Magewell XI100DUSB-HDMI HDMI to USB 3.0 Video Capture Dongle.
I tried OBS to capture its HD video stream to an .AVI file without success..
I tried some tweekings that would not work.
Could you come up with some settings you used that would do
what I'm looking for ?
I'm looking at 1920x1080 or 1080x720p recorded resolutions..
Thanks.

I do not think OBS captures in AVI, just get a program that can record in AVI

OBS absolutely can capture in AVI, as well as many, many other containers. Set Output Mode to Advanced, Type to Custom Output (FFMpeg), FFMpeg Output Type to "Output to File", and then select "avi" from the list of Container Formats.

It may be worth asking, though, why you particularly want to capture in AVI format at all, especially on a Mac, when .mov and .mp4 are available.

Are you streaming live? If your DSLR records video, you don't need a capture card to shoot video on it and then transfer to your Mac for editing. You just need a cable or a card reader for whatever media you are recording to on the camera.

OBS on OSX and Magewell is about as easy as it gets. I have the USB 3.0 HDMI Capture card / Macbook Pro and it has worked flawlessly. If ever you find yourself looking at a black screen simply disconnect the USB cable and reconnect it while leaving the HDMI plugged in. I believe they mention this step in the manual somewhere...

OBSnewby - If you are recording "live" using the capture device, make sure that your DSLR sends audio over HDMI. I know the popular Canon 5D Mk. III only sends video over HDMI so you would need a separate cable for audio.

Hey RNGenius; I just got this and hooked it up with my new Macbook Pro (the touch bar one), and having some problems. 1. The video appears to be at like 15 FPS no matter what my settings are; is there some kind of special driver I need to get to configure? For example any scrolling text that appears on the PS4 home screen is jittering instead of smooth at a consistent rate (as if the frame rate was lower). 2. No audio appeared for this in my mixer when I added the Magewell as a video capture device...how did you get the audio in? Thanks.

No but I can; what sequence of events would you like me to do before making the log, try adding it as a video capture source? The audio problem is my only issue now btw; the video issue i figured out was caused by a bad USB wire (it was too long).
