Question / Help Macro Use

It's not a crippling issue, but it's a confusing one. To avoid causing conflicts with games, I have multi-key hot keys. For instance, the start/stop recording hotkey is Ctrl-Shift-F10. I recently decided to just put those hotkeys on macros and that's where it all falls apart. For some reason, they won't work when OBS doesn't have focus (ie: when I need them). I've tried putting them on mouse buttons, my keyboard's macro keys, and a programmable keypad. It's certainly not the end of the world but it's confusing.

And, again, it's not like the macros are sending the keystrokes incorrectly: they work when OBS is the focus, they just don't work when it isn't. Like when in a game.

If your game is running as admin, and OBS isn't running as admin, OBS isn't able to get the hotkeys while the game has the focus. Either don't start the game as admin (recommended) or start OBS as admin (not so recommended).
