Question / Help MAC or Windows Laptop for OBS

Good Day,

I have two questions:

I wonder if someone can please give me some guidance. Unfortunately I have to buy a laptop to run OBS I am not in a position to buy a Desktop, so I want to find out what the best type of laptop would be. I am aware of the problems laptops have with the integrated and discrete GPU's so I'm thinking that maybe a Macbook pro with integrated GPU in the CPU that runs graphics at 670 or a Windows laptop with the GPU integrated in the CPU and no additional discrete GPU.

1)Will this solve the laptop problem with screen capture or not?
2)Would you take a Macbook Pro or Windows laptop?

What laptop you need depends on the applications you want to run on it.
An external GPU is 5-10 times more powerful than an integrated GPU.
The integrated GPU is only sufficient for office work, not for any kind of gaming with streaming.
A laptop is about $200-400 more expensive than a desktop with the same computing power if under $1500.
A laptop is about double the price of desktop of the same computing power if over $1500.
A Mac is about double the price of a Windows laptop of the same computing power.
The integrated GPU of a Macbook is the same as the integrated GPU of a Windows notebook, so their graphics capability is the same.
Running a Macbook with Windows takes away some computing power and computing features, since the drivers are crippled in comparison to the drivers of a generic Windows laptop.

Hi Koala,

Thanks for your response, I need a laptop for work and cannot afford to get a laptop and a desktop for OBS only. Do you know where I can get a guide that will help me understand what desktop configuration I need to produce HD videos with OBS, maybe I can get a cheap laptop and also a desktop with the required hardware to run OBS

I'm sorry, but I don't know such guide, because getting the right system is very difficult and somewhat complex - it depends on very different factors. It's also not the topic of this forum.

It is always a mystery to me how people with no technical knowledge get a correctly sized PC. I assume it's by sheer chance - either you get a good salesperson at a shop, or you have a knowledgeable friend who can do a better guess than yourself. Or look for someone who produces exactly the same thing as you intend to and copy his system specs. Don't search for someone who generally does "produce HD videos with OBS", look for someone who records or streams exactly the same app you intend to record or stream with exactly the resolution and quality you intend to produce.
