M2 Mac running Sonoma Automatically Blurring background

I’m running OBS on an M2 MacBook Pro (macOS Sonoma) with a Sony camera routed through a Blackmagic ATEM Mini Pro over USB.

Inside OBS, my subject stays sharp but the background is noticeably blurred, exactly like an AI/portrait-mode effect. This blur is baked into recordings and streams, not just the preview.

What’s confusing is that the same ATEM feed is completely clean everywhere else:

  • ATEM multiview is sharp
  • QuickTime Player capture is sharp
  • FaceTime / Photo Booth are sharp
  • Zoom is sharp
  • Google Meet is Sharp

The blur only happens in OBS.

I’ve confirmed there are no filters applied at the scene or source level. I’ve reset transforms, matched canvas/output resolution and FPS to the ATEM, tested different renderers (Metal and OpenGL), disabled HDR, tried fresh profiles and scene collections, tried checking Control Panel for any "Portrait Mode" (doesnt exist). I also tested older OBS versions (29.x) which just crash. Nothing changes the behavior.

This doesn’t look like scaling softness. It’s very clearly subject segmentation. I stay sharp while the background is blurred, and it only affects OBS. Since the ATEM Mini is a UVC device, OBS is forced through macOS camera APIs, but I don’t see any way to disable this behavior.

At this point I’m trying to figure out whether:
  • OBS is opting into some macOS video processing on Sonoma
  • This is a known regression with UVC devices on Apple Silicon
  • Or if there’s a way to force OBS to treat the ATEM feed as raw video
Has anyone seen this or found a workaround? Happy to provide logs if needed.
