On the Apple M1 you should downgrade to the non-M1 version, that is version 3.0.12. So don't install version 3.0.12.1, which is the Silicon M1 version that doesn't work with OBS

macOS has a translation layer called Rosetta 2 which allows you to run apps compiled for Intel on Apple Silicon.

Just launch the older version as normal. If you use normal release OBS on M1 you're already using an Intel app on M1 – that mismatch is probably what's causing the issue here.

I assume once the M1 version of OBS is released, you'll be wanting the latest M1 version of VLC and not the Intel one.
