The audio capture went away from a scene, remained fine in other scenes. I went through all settings and they looked identical in each scene, nothing to change. So under Sources, I selected the erroring audio (had a line thru it as it was disabled) and deleted it, then re-add it (- / +). Now under Audio Mixer, selecting the audio entity, it now shows up as ‘Audio Input Capture 2’, but it works!
