Question / Help lossless cutting / editing of clips

I recently stubled upon OBS, and was really impressed with the easy PiP and sound mixing utilities. I'd like to use it to make screen casts, but am unsure how to output to formats that I can easily snip and remix with some video editing software. I found a thread somewhere on this site that lead me to OpenShot, but after making the edits to the video, the exported video appears noticeably darker as though it's been re-encoded with a different encoder.

I only have one encoding option in OBS I think, x264 (i'm on linux). Can outputs from OBS be re-worked losslessly?

You can output in several different containers, or even just use FFmpeg to encode in the advanced output options.

Thanks, you're spot on, didn't quite see it untill I gave it more scrutiny.

Output -> Recording -> Type (standard)

Changing the type to "Custom Output" yields many options. Out of habit I would just pick MP4 container and mpeg-2 for editing purposes, but if anyone else does this kind of thing and has advice, I'd be interested in hearing from you.
