Question / Help Loss of quality during recording

I was recording some Bloon TD Battles gameplay through OBS Studio, and everything was going fine. If you've played the game you'll know if you get to the late game you'll get mad frame drops, even if you're not recording. But when watching the recording back, the quality of the recording deteriorated over the duration of the video. It eventually becomes just a pixelly mess. Am I doing something wrong in the settings? What would cause this drop in quality from 1080p to sub 144p?
