After the recent Windows 10 falls creator update or whatever it was, my Logitech C920 has not worked properly on OBS Studio. I use Kaspersky and tried turning on and off webcam protection and that didnt work, I uninstalled my logitech and reinstalled it and that didnt help, i tried using custom resolution within OBS Studio, that made the camera work but very choppy and would freeze alot and constantly make my Kaspersky ask to make sure its ok to use cam in OBS Studio. Sometimes the lights on the camera wont even come on, sometimes nothing will even show up on OBS Studio... i just have no clue whats going on... I have my help logs from a current session i tried messing with stuff. Please help!

Try these settings:

Logitech HD Pro Webcam C920
Resolution/FPS Type: Custom
Resolution: 1920x1080
FPS: Highest FPS
Video Format: MJPEG
YUV Color Space: 709
YUV Color Range: Full
Buffering: AutoDetect
Audio Output Mode: Capture audio only

At 1920x1080, you can Transform and crop if needed. Or, just choose another resolution, say 640x480.

Some other things to consider:
- Connect C920 to front header or back header of computer
- Connect C920 to a powered USB hub that in turn is connected to a USB 3.x port on front header/back header
- Replace Kaspersky with Norton or McAfee

Norton and McAfee are arguably the worst ones out there

I'm having the same issue with my Logitech HD Pro Webcam C920. When I open OBS Studio and go to my capture device, my webcam is grayed out. Any other help?

Ok so i am not 100% sure on what exactly fixed it, but it is fixed!!! I did everything i could think of plus alot of things mentioned in this thread and after trying nearly all of that, i did something that literally took 5 seconds... I unplugged my camera from my 2.0 USB port on my computer (Which its been plugged into for quite some time) and plugged it into one of my 3.0 USB ports on my computer. First couple times i opened OBS Studio it still wasnt working correctly so i changed the camera back to Device Default, restarted OBS Studio and worked like a charm... I dont really know why but hey im not arguing with it, its worked 100% of the time since i have done this. What i would like to know is why after this big Windows fall update that my Camera decided to not work on USB 2.0 but does work on USB 3.0... This whole thing was quite frustrating and i feel for anyone going through this or will go through this. Thank you guys for the help!

I keep trying this, but it still won't work for me.

It can happen if you have Windows automatically updating your drivers.

To disable universal driver updates:
- Control Panel | System and Security | System | Advanced system settings
- Click on Hardware tab
- Click on Device Installation Settings
- "Do you want to automatically download manufacturer's apps and custom icons available for your devices?"
By default it is set to Yes. Set this to No and Save Changes.

At this point, it is up to you to regularly update drivers for all your hardware.

Are you still having problems? I just troubleshot this for well over a week and the above didn’t help me either.

I just did the OBS Classic to OBS Studio move and it was painful. With OBS Classic I felt it was much more forgiving but Studio is so much more advanced and obvious to update.

One major change was setting my OBS.exe to run off of Integrated in NVIDIA because I’m using display capture in multiple scenes/sources.

I’m running Windows 8.1 and my webcam would crash, often simultaneously when my screen would flicker. I could unplug USB, reseat USB and restart OBS to get it working again but it would only last 30 seconds to 5 minutes max. I turned down the refresh rate of my secondary monitor and that stopped the random flicker that would cause devices to disconnect (with the device disconnecting sound) and OBS stream to crash.

Cam would still freeze after changing refresh rate but eliminated random monitor flicker.

I also updated to a new BIOS found through SupportAssist. Once starting laptop repetitively hitting F2 to enter BIOS menu. Once in BIOS I found and disabled a USB power balancing setting and finally my C920 started streaming for 8+ hours without error. I let it run overnight and no freeze by morning.

Also uninstalled Logitech software and re-installed new software directly from Logitech as drivers showed current.

I have a few drivers in Bluetooth showing corrupt with an exclamation but no replacement drivers available online. Seem impossible to uninstall and update. There simply may be no solution without Malware encrypted. For these to show I had to go into device manager and click on ‘view’ and ‘show hidden devices’. Found the corrupt Bluetooth drivers I’ll probably never use and just disabled each of them.

Also in device manager I went through all my USB devices and disabled the option to allow windows to change or manage power requirements.

I’ve got my webcam set to very low resolution at the moment but I’m hoping I can gradually increase the quality of some of the settings I throttled down now that I’ve nailed the culprits? I’m no whiz tech and if I’ve done anything harmful in this description please call me out. But these were some of the steps that seemed to help me, leaving out 100 other failed attempts.

I was also originally and previously (with OBS Classic) using a 2.0 USB 4-port extender from a 3.0 USB Hub on my laptop, which isn’t ideal. I removed this from the equation when I started troubleshooting webcam however, i’ve ordered a new 3.0 5V 7-port powered USB hub.
