Hi, I've been using OBS for about two months and something I've noticed that I would like having is being able to capture and output the microphone audio to a separate (and specified) audio track. Say I want 'desktop' on track 1 (for picking up whatever music I'm playing), 'audio output' on track 2 (all the game sounds, for example), and 'microphone' on track 3. Partly so I can mute or change the volumes on one part (say the game is coming through too loud in one spot, I can spot change the audio during the editing process w/o affecting the mic or music from my player). I really don't want to resort to using Audacity to record audio separate from OBS, or at least not have to control it separately? Maybe a plugin to control Audacity, with Audacity setup before hand (that wouldn't be an issue). That would work and allow for easy syncing of the separate files.

Really? Because I cannot find a setting for this. All my recordings have the audio mixed on audio track 1 & 2.

That button opens the mixer, in which you can select which track what audio goes to.

Thank you but no, that button doesn't open it. However, I managed to find it under Edit -> Advanced Audio Properties (I am now using OBS 17.0.0, I was using the previous version at the time of OP).

I'm still having problems, though. Audio won't output to any audio tracks but 1 & 2 (though 1-4 show up in my NLE when I import the recorded test video(s) with my new settings). I have my setup as thus now:
Mic -> 1&2
Desktop Audio -> 3&4
Audio Output Capture -> 5&6

I don't expect anything on AOC since I'm assuming that's for when I have apps launched like World of Warcraft. However, on my first two vids I had mic on 3&4 and it does not play either in my NLE or Windows Media Player, however the desktop audio (some toons from MusicBee) did play (it was set for tracks 1&2). Tracks 5&6 have not been added to any of my videos.

I moved desktop audio to audio tracks 3&4 and mic to 1&2 and mic recorded just fine, no audio on 3&4.

You need to set up the tracks to actually be exported with the video file in the recording tab of output.

And when I did that, I have 12 identically mixed audio tracks.

OBS has a maximum of 6 audio tracks starting with 17.0.0, it's not possible to have 12 of them unless you manually compiled it and added these yourself. Like I said before, make sure that you are outputting the audio to the proper tracks (the number next to the checkbox is which track it should be on).

6 Audio Tracks. I'm not sure what your problem is and at this point this thread should be moved to a support forum.

12 audio tracks

And regardless of the amount, all are identically mixed (all audio sources on all tracks).

Those are channels, not tracks - this is a problem with the software you use.
And to the problem that they are all identically mixed, again make sure that you actually have split audio coming in and that you have selected the proper tracks to output it to. 99% of all audio mixing issues stem from the user configuration.

To chime in on this:
One Audio Track holds both the left and right channel. So you only need to select Track 1 for your Microphone, Track 2 for your Desktop and Track 3 for your Audio Output Capture in the advanced audio properties. In the recording settings you then just need to make sure to select Track 1, 2 and 3. Lightworks should then show you 3 Tracks with 2 channels each, so 6 channels.

You probably need to mute the other tracks in lightworks to listen to a single track. But thats about it.

Thats how it looks in Sony Vegas for example:

It's a problem with Lightworks. With multiple discrete audio tracks in a file (as recorded by OBS) Lightworks shows duplicates of the first track found. Check their forums.

(The workaround would be to extract the audio from the OBS-created file using e.g. ffmpeg and import it into lwks separately)

I've muted them (and left them muted as I muted others) one at a time and each channel is identical.

Another workaround is to just record the mic in another app (like Audacity) and mute the mic in OBS. Same amount of hassle involved.
