Question / Help Launching OBS limits framerate

Hi All,

I just recently got a 120hz monitor and have found that in any game, simply launching OBS Studio causes my framerate to drop to 60 fps from 120. I have searched the forums but could only find posts related to fps drop when streaming or recording, not necessarily just opening the software. Also if I close out of OBS Studio, my frame rate returns to normal......does anyone have any ideas?

There is an option i believe in OBS MP that does that. Look for it in your game capture or monitor capture or window capture. It's somewhere there or in the settings.

I see the options to limit the capture frame rate but it's currently not enabled...unless you were referring to a different option.

I think I figured it out, if the software itself is displayed on my second 60hz screen the issue happens but if I keep the software on the same screen behind the game that's playing on the 120hz monitor the frame rate decrease doesn't happen. Disabling preview didn't help.

Interesting... I'm experiencing a similar issue - games run fine on my primary 165Hz monitor, while OBS is on secondary 60Hz. But I noticed that, if I just have OBS open on the secondary monitor then all windows flicker on the primary monitor when being dragged around. Almost like the primary monitor is dropping frame rate. If I minimise or close the OBS on the secondary monitor then everything returns to normal on the primary monitor - windows when dragged around the screen produce butter smooth motion, no flickering.

UPDATE: I noticed that if I set the OBS video setting to 10 fps, the flickering of windows while moved around on the primary monitor almost completely disappears! Going back to 60 fps increases the flickering.

Same issue here. I have 2 60hz monitors and when running obs on the second monitor the extended one, the primary one will feel laggy. Im on windows 7, what fixes the issue is to disable windows transparency.
