Laptop really slow when recording with OBS

Hello, I am new to obs and recording my screen, I have watched over 20 YouTube videos trying to find a solution that would work for me but nothing yet.
I use Obs just to record my screen, but as soon as I hit record everything slows down, I need to move my mouse rather quickly during this time but it really struggles, I find hard to click where I need to click etc.
I will provide the specs of my laptop here but anything else I can share please let me know.

Laptop ASUS 8 months old
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-10510U CPU @ 1.80GHz 2.30 GHz
Edition: Windows 11 Home
Installed RAM: 16,0 GB (15,8 GB usable)
System Type: 64-bit operating system, x64-based processor
Internet Type: Fiber Glass 100Mb upload/download
HardDrive: 1TB SSD

Thanks a lot

That is a relatively current, but ultra-low power CPU, optimized for battery life, not the computationally demanding task of real-time video encoding. Which also means thermal throttling can be a real constraint for you.

I recommend monitoring hardware resource (CPU, GPU, RAM, Disk I/O, etc) utilization [for ex. using Task manager’s Performance tab and/or Resource Monitor] to see if your system is being maxed out with your settings https://obsproject.com/wiki/General-Performance-and-Encoding-Issues and https://obsproject.com/wiki/GPU-overload-issues

However, you have changed some of the settings in what is bound to cripple your system. I recommend going back to default auto-config settings
21:08:30.861: video settings reset:
21:08:30.861: downscale filter: Lanczos ** why change this from the default??
21:08:30.861: YUV mode: 709/Full **this is a huge problem for you - put this back to Partial

and then you appear to be recording using CBR? ugh - Stream at CBR, record using CPQ, most likely. And I'd recommend trying QuickSync encoding vs CPU based that have in the log

Hi, Thanks for your reply and advice, I have to admit I am not sure where to find some of the settings.
I made changes while getting advice for youtubers, but I guess I kept following all those that streamed.

Do you think that is better I uninstall and re-install fresh with the default setting, than test how it goes and perhaps post a new log from there?

You can just run the auto-config wizard under tools, choose optimize for recording, set FPS 30. Then apply settings.
Under settings, advanced, video, change it back to partial from full.

With Hardware Quicksync as part of your settings, your PC should be much more responsive during the recording.

Hi Viper, I followed all the instructions except for the Quicksync part at the end of your post, not sure where to change this,
but I did another test now and it still really slow, is not the recording itself that is slow when I view it, is actually using the computer while recording that everything is in slow motion.
In a post above there was this mentioned: "That is a relatively current, but ultra-low power CPU, optimized for battery life"
can a cpu on a laptop be upgraded? if yes any advice?

No unfortunately you aren't able to upgrade your CPU, but for just screen recording your PC is plenty strong enough using the Quicksync hardware encoder.
I would suggest you join the OBS Discord server, as more people hang around there and can respond more quickly.
You can try to restart your laptop just prior to the recording (not turn it off & on), as you'll start off more fresh then with less programs running etc.
Would you mind posting a new log?
