Question / Help Laggy Stream with FPS games, no lag in game

Hi,

I've tried lowering my bitrate and messing with other settings but I can't find the issue here. My pc is pretty beefy and the game itself doesn't lag at all and the screen doesn't tear, but on the stream it's like a slideshow.

What can I do? It only gets choppy when stuff is moving around fast and lights are changing and things like that. It's only in fast paced fps games that this happens. My games run buttery smooth on my computer and look nothing like how it comes out on stream

Here's a link to the video where you can see it slide showing: https://www.twitch.tv/waymoe/v/107552949

Looks like you are using 1920x1080 for output. I would recommend keeping base resolution as your monitor and then downscaling to 720p. 1920 takes a lot of bandwith. What is your bitrate set to? Your hardware can definitely stream lag free even with FPS

Here's what I changed. My bitrate is set at 1500.

1500 bitrate is pretty low. If you are streaming 720p you would need......
  • Recommended bitrate for 720p: 1800-2500
What is your download and upload speeds?

Also screenshots of your video settings themselves like x264

Also, how are you capturing your gameplay? (ex. window capture, game capture, monitor capture)

Thanks for your help.

I've tried 2500 and 2000 bitrates and only lowered it to 1500 thinking that could help. Doesn't seem to make much of a difference.
DL: 140 mbps
UP: 12mbps

I'm capturing via game capture.

I've also tried switching the encoder to the other option and it didn't seem to make a difference.

How do I downscale to 720p? is it the output (scaled) resolution setting? Also, should I adjust my base (Canvas) resolution? I don't mind if the quality is lower, I just want to be able to stream without it being a slideshow when stuff happens.

I tried changing my base and output to 720 but its still like a slide show. Also changed my cpu overclock settings back down to default (they were at 4.3mhz).

Encoder preset:
Veryfast.

Faster, Fast, Medium need more and mor and more CPU.
Bitrate minimum 1800, but rise to 2500 for better image.

I've tried all of those settings but it hasn't made a difference. I've got an i5 6600k cpu so should be able to use encoder preset past veryfast, but I've tried very fast, faster, fast, medium - doesnt change anything.

Your base resolution should be 1980x1020 assuming that's your monitors native resolution and a downscale of 1280x720. You can change these in your video settings. I am sure you are wanting to get this resolved faster than forums. You can add me on steam if you like. I only check this site every so often. https://steamcommunity.com/id/rever3nce/
