System's a 2013 Intel Core i5, with 32GB ram, nVidia 2GB video memory, no other CPU intensive application running according to Ubuntu's 'System Monitor'.
I was attempting to record myself using GIMP image editor, and that's when I noticed this problem.
I'm using XSHM screen capture.
